What is a Live Auction?
Live auctions can take place anywhere in the world. Sellers upload their inventory to Proxibid in advance of the auction to begin accepting pre-bids. On auction day the event will go live, allowing online bidders to watch and bid in real time, and to compete with other bidders both onsite and online.
A live auction is an auction that occurs in real-time, run by an auctioneer, with both online and onsite buyers. When this occurs, the auctioneer takes online and onsite bids and has the final say on when, and to whom, the lot sells. Some sellers will offer live audio and video
alongside a live auction.
Determining Auction Type
Live auctions appear on the Proxibid site with an Internet Signal icon.
Participating in a Live Auction
Live auctions take place in Proxibid's Live Bidding Application. When an auction goes live, the Place Bid button will change to Enter Live Auction. Clicking this button launches the Proxibid Live Bidding Application and allows bidders to participate in the sale in real-time.
Potential bidders must login to their Proxibid account to participate in a live event. If a bidder is not logged in when they enter a live sale, they will see a Sign In To Bid
button in lieu of the actual BID
button, and will be in Watch Only Mode
After logging in, bidders will automatically be checked to see if they meet the requirements to join the live auction.
If the bidder is approved to participate
in the event, a pop-up window will open stating that Proxibid Live is ready to launch. To join the Live Webcast, click the OK, LET'S LAUNCH!
If the bidder is not yet approved to participate in the event, a pop-up window will open listing the information needed. Click the Website button to be taken back to the event's catalog page.
A banner at the top of the page will provide the next steps that need to be taken in order to be approved for bidding.
Once the additional information has been provided, the bidder will be able to participate in the event.
Participating in More Than One Event at a Time
Proxibid allows bidders to participate in multiple auctions at once. This can be done by either launching multiple events from Proxibid. Bidders can toggle between events using the My Auctions menu located in the top right corner of the Proxibid Live bidding application.
Many sellers offer a combination of audio and/or video in their live events. Please keep in mind that live audio/video is for entertainment purposes only and may be delayed from what's happening onsite or in the bid panel of Proxibid Live. Please refer to the Proxibid Live Bidding Application, rather the audio/video stream, for accurate and up-to-date bid information.
If the event is offering audio and/or video, there will be a Live Audio/Video button just above the photo of the item currently up for sale. Click the Live Audio/Video button located above the lot currently being offered to start the stream.
Live events that are not streaming audio will still generate some sounds (clicks and chimes) as lots are being sold through the live bidding application.
Bidding in a Live Auction
Bidders should read the event's Terms of Sale prior to placing any bids. For more information about bidding, see Bidding on Proxibid.
When participating in an auction via the Live Bidding Application, the bid button is, turned off to prevent accidental bids. To place a bid, enable bidding by clicking the Enable Bidding toggle in the bottom left corner of the page. Once bidding is enabled, it remains enabled until it is turned off again.
With bidding enabled, the previously locked BID button will light up orange with the asking bid. Click the BID button to place a bid at the current asking price. This is considered a live bid (or an instant bid).
In the example below, clicking the BID button will result in placing a $35.00 bid.
A confirmation window will open confirming the bid amount. Click the Confirm Bid button to continue. The bid will not be submitted unless the Confirm Bid button is clicked.
Pre-Biding on Live Auctions
Sellers will often allow pre-bidding on a live sale. This means there is a time period before the actual sale date when online bidders can place bids. The seller may then choose to have the Proxibid platform represent these bids during the live sale.
To access the event, click the Start Bidding button to the right side of the event.
Click the Bid Now button to the right of an item to bid the current asking price. A confirmation window will open confirming the bid amount. Click the Confirm Bid button to continue.
If the Bid Now button does not display an asking price, the bidder will be prompted to enter an amount for the bid.
Bidders also have the option of entering an amount for a Maximum Bid
. For more information on placing pre-bids, see Pre-Bids
